The North Star - Why Every Author-Illustrator Should Define Theirs
Dear fellow Author-Illustrator,
I'm writing this letter to inspire you to hold on to your big "WHY," your North Star, the reason you started this journey.
As an author-illustrator, we have the incredible freedom to explore and refine our skills in writing and creating.
With two distinct skill sets to cultivate—writing and illustrating—we often find ourselves faced with a long list of craft-related tasks.
There's so much to do, but so little time to accomplish it all. On top of that, we actively participate in the industry and receive critiques to improve our work.
This is where weariness sets in. We may be tempted to bury ourselves in new projects or our personal lives. It's during these times that we question our own abilities.
But let me assure you, you ARE good enough. You HAVE what it takes to achieve your goal of a thriving author-illustrator career.
Now is the moment to remind yourself of your North Star, your "BIG WHY" for pursuing this path.
If you need a little inspiration, Visit the Writing Barn's website and find the manifesto posted there. Find strength in the statements there, drawing inspiration to keep moving forward during moments of doubt.
Stay encouraged and committed to the work. The story inside you deserves to be heard. The illustrations within you long to be experienced.
I eagerly await news of your future wild success. It's on its way. Just keep honing your craft, revising your manuscript, improving your illustrations, and creating new portfolio pieces.
Signed: Your Encourager
